.Weeks makes firm promises on pro-life issues
Russ Weeks told West Virginians for Life that he will be an active and aggressive governor on pro-life issues, promising that if elected:
1) By executive order or, if needed, legislation, I will provide no more tax dollars to fund abortions.
2) I will include at least one piece of pro-life legislation every year.
3) I will bring pressure to bear to put pro-life legislation on the agendaWeeks challenges Manchin to add pro-life measure to special session
(June 13, 2008)Republican gubernatorial candidate Russ Weeks today challenged Gov. Joe Manchin to include legislation to further limit taxpayer funding of abortions to the agenda for the anticipated upcoming special session of the State Legislature.
Such a measure has been sought annually by West Virginians for Life.
Weeks noted that the state of West Virginia spent almost $350,000 of taxpayer money to pay for abortions in 2006.
"The federal government requires that we pay for abortions for rape, incest and life of the mother, yet West Virginians are forced to pay for abortions for any reason, even as a method of birth control," said Weeks. "West Virginia is one of only 18 states that uses tax dollars to pay for abortions on demand."
Since 1993, the state of West Virginia has spent $5 million to pay for more than 12,000 abortions, said Weeks.

you go Weeks, I don't believe in abortions and didn't know that I was paying for them with my hard earned money. wow. I really pray hard that Weeks get into office and gets that devil out of there. I detest everything that Joe Manchin does and stands for. He needs to go and never come back.
Manchin will have an about face soon on the abortion issue as he does everything else. He tells everyone what they want to hear at the time. Here is another one of those times. This is copied from Republican Gazette website.
I wish everyone would do some research and see all the lies this guy tells in a week.
In Fairmont, Manchin takes credit; in Jefferson Cty, says it wasn't his decision
Wednesday, June 18, Fairmont Times:
Gov. Joe Manchin said Tuesday he’s going to free up state highway construction dollars to finish the new Gateway Connector highway by 2010. The governor’s action to transfer state funds from other highway projects that have run into delays breaks a funding logjam... “Our goal is to award the last two contracts this year and hopefully get the road finished in 2010,” said Lara Ramsburg, the governor’s communications director.
Friday, June 20, The (Martinsburg) Journal:
It’s a use-it-or-lose-it situation, Ramsburg said. The $21 million must be allocated for a project before Oct. 1. She said the recommendation for the reallocation came from the Department of Transportation and didn’t originate with the governor’s office.
Cara:
I wish the rest of this state would get a backbone and make a stand behind Weeks for Governor.
I am a registered Democrat and I am voting Republican for a lot of offices this year.
I don't believe anyone should vote a straight ticket, you need to vote for those who have the same beliefs/values/morals and who stand for what you believe in.
Manchin tells us what we want to hear, but his actions go where the money is. It just amazes me how popular he remains even with all the scandals.
He will be anti-abortion, probably some time around noon tomorrow, LOL.
